The Old Testament Returns.
Hell has reached the surface. Heaven has sent its own.
— the great and the terrible day of the Lord.  ·  Joel 2:31
WRATHii
Part the First
The World

Hell has reached the surface. Civil order failing.
I · The World01
§ 01  ·  The Breach

The Collapse is Ongoing
Not a single event. A phase.

The world has been degrading for a long time. Wards dissolve at the rate faith dissolves. The institutions built to hold the line — sacramental volume, consecrated ground, the ordinary operation of the Church — have decayed past the threshold that kept Hell from physically manifesting.

What the audience sees is the phase where the degradation became visible and unrecoverable.

Prayers go up fast. Answers come down slow.

§ 02  ·  Surfaces of the Collapse
Sacred Over Civic
The old paintings watch the new bodies. The iconography predates the crisis and outlasts the institutions trying to manage it.
Civil order fails below a visual order that did not consent to fail. Murals of St. Michael, municipal shrines, unbroken ward lines on older buildings — the universe is not secular, even where its occupants are.
I · The World03
Part the Second
Heaven

A hierarchy of nine orders. One of them walks among us.
II · Heaven04
§ 03  ·  The Ninefold Order

The Hierarchy
Pseudo-Dionysian. Thomistic. Three spheres, nine choirs.
First Sphere
Closest to God. Rarely on Earth.
Seraphim
Cherubim
Ophanim
Second Sphere
The operational orders.
Dominions
Virtues
Powers
Third Sphere
Oriented toward Earth.
Principalities
Archangels
Guardian Angels

Rank is not measured by power but by proximity. The lower orders are operational and seen often — they move through the contested sky and make Heaven’s work visible on Earth.

The higher orders are rare and decisive. When one appears, it is because geometry has permitted it. The register of the scene changes with the arrival.

II · Heaven05
Seraphim

Six wings, per Isaiah 6 — two of them cover the face. Monumental, composed, still. They descend when Heaven answers, and the register of the scene changes on contact.

Ophanim

Concentric gold wheels full of eyes, per Ezekiel 1. The Thrones’ manifestation on Earth. They operate above the contested sky, in the geometry where opposition cannot reach. When one appears, the outcome is already decided.

§ 04  ·  First Sphere

Closest to God. Rarely on Earth.
II · Heaven06
§ 05  ·  The Walking Choir
The Powers
Exousiai. The order tasked with preventing the assaults of demons.

The Powers are a choir, ordered by classical virtue. What the Baroque masters depicted, the audience now sees as itself.

§ 06  ·  Above the Powers
Dominions
The command layer between Archangels and Thrones. They cast their shadow over the battlefields they order, and are not ordinarily seen by the civilians they manage. Volume I treats them at the edge of frame; later volumes may bring them in.
II · Heaven08
§ 07  ·  The Third Sphere
Guardians

Common angels. Unarmed. Oriented toward individual human lives. A canonical open question stands over them: they may be the order that has been recalled or is no longer reliably dispatched — which would explain why the Powers are the de facto response tier in the present era.

II · Heaven09
Part the Third
Hell

Not a place beneath the Earth. A place adjacent to it. Closer than Heaven, by geometry. Organized by an inversion of the virtues it has rejected.
III · Hell10
§ 08  ·  Cosmology

Hell is in the Air
Caelum · Caelum Inferius · Terra.

Daniel 10 — when Daniel prays, the angel sent in response is delayed twenty-one days by opposition in the air above Earth. Paul, in Ephesians, confirms the architecture: principalities, powers, rulers of darkness in high places. Satan is named the prince of the power of the air.

The practical implication: the demonic operates directly adjacent to the human world. Hell’s access is near-instantaneous. Heaven is above and beyond the contested lower heavens. Every response must transit a combat environment.

§ 09  ·  The Ecosystem

Three Tiers of Opposition
The enemy is organized. It is not uniform.
Commander tier
Fallen Powers

Named antagonists. Inverted-virtue Latin nomenclature (Sacrilega, Crudelitas, Perfidia…) They mirror the walking Powers structurally.

Human infantry
Cultists

Hooded, armed, modern. The Sigillum Sulphuris on tactical gear. Serve the fallen willingly. Human weaknesses — they bleed and fall to conventional fire.

Shock troops
Daemonia

Lesser demons. Red-skinned, horned, cloven-hoofed. Vulgate Latin for the demons Christ casts out — singular daemonium. Pack behavior.

III · Hell12
First Named Fallen
Sacrilega
The inversion of Pietas.
III · Hell13
Human infantry
Cultists

Burlap hoods, black tactical kit, AK-pattern rifles. The Sigillum Sulphuris — the sulphur sigil — spray-painted on their plate carriers in blood-red. Nobody issued them the mark; they put it on themselves.

Shock troops
Daemonia

Lesser demons — quadrupedal, knee-height, wet-flesh crimson. Reptilian heads, curved horns, claws. A pack, not a vanguard — they flank and swarm rather than hold a line. A Power cuts through them as crowd-clearing. Unaided civilians cannot.
